Early childhood education in Swedish
In our fully Swedish-speaking daycare centres, only Swedish is spoken with the children by our professional and encouraging staff.
All children are welcome to learn Swedish — no prior language skills are required from the child or their guardians.
At the heart of everything we do is the growing and developing child. We aim to provide a safe and warm environment for children to absorb a new language.
In our experience, children naturally acquire a new language in a secure setting through play, songs, rhymes, themed activities, and everyday routines. Our skilled educators are sensitive and attentive adults who ensure that each child feels understood. When needed, staff support communication with body language, facial expressions, gestures, tone of voice, pictures, and more.
At home, the most important role of parents is to support the development of the child’s mother tongue and to encourage and motivate the child in learning and using Swedish.
All Pilke daycare centres follow the Finnish legislation on Early Childhood Education and Care and are guided by both the national and municipal core curriculum for early childhood education and care (ECEC).
