An Active Nature Kindergarten in Pirkkala – Now with English, Too!
Pilke Nature Kindergarten Haikara opened on Pereensaarentie in January 2018. Haikara is a nature-focused kindergarten where children develop a positive attitude toward nature and a sustainable way of life. Outdoor activities are an essential part of the daily routine, regardless of the weather. The kindergarten emphasizes exploring and marveling at natural phenomena, regular excursions, and outdoor movement.
Nature as a Diverse Learning Environment
The forest is an excellent playground for children, offering endless ideas and opportunities for play, movement, and creativity. Early experiences in nature have a lasting impact throughout life. Nature provides an inspiring and versatile environment for children’s movement and learning. Creativity, recycling, and using natural materials for learning and play are integral parts of everyday life at our nature kindergarten.
Getting Familiar with English
Our kindergarten also offers language-enriched early childhood education in English, where children practice familiar songs, rhymes, and concepts in English. Through playful and interactive activities, children can gradually become acquainted with a new language in a natural and enjoyable way.

Diverse Activities in Line with the Early Childhood Education Plan
Our activities naturally include all the diverse elements of the early childhood education plan, such as singing sessions, theater performances, arts and crafts, and painting moments—without forgetting rest time. Pedagogy is present in every moment of the kindergarten day. It means pausing together to explore and wonder, counting peas in a salad, and playing with colors while painting. We cherish every unhurried moment spent talking, playing, and being silly—discovering the world together.
Music Playgroups, Too!
At Haikara, children have the opportunity to participate in a music playgroup (muskari) organized by the Pirkanmaa Music Institute once a week during the kindergarten day. The music playgroup is open to children of all ages.
Additionally, we host a public music playgroup on the first Wednesday of each month (February 5th, March 5th, April 2nd, and May 7th) from 10:30 to 11:30. We warmly welcome local families to join us, meet other parents and children, and get to know our kindergarten!
