The atmosphere at daycare centre Kaniini is safe, warm and caring. For us, it is important to reserve plenty of time to encounter each child genuinely; to listen to them, to take account of their experiences and to provide them with intimacy, happiness and a safe lap to sit on. At Kaniini, the children participate in planning the daycare centre’s activities with the educators. The daycare centre’s small size allows each child and adult to familiarise with each other and makes us well capable of taking account of each child’s individual needs. At Kaniini, every child is provided with the opportunity to develop at their own pace.
During the day at daycare, children of different ages participate in instructed activities in small groups formed on the basis of the children’s stages of development. In addition, children of all ages spend time together during outdoor activities and play, for example. This enables children to learn from each other and siblings to spend time together at the daycare centre.
Our operation makes use of the numerous playgrounds, cultural sites and natural areas in the daycare centre’s vicinity. Musical activities and making music together are integral parts of our everyday operation. The children are taught to play instruments and to sing, and they are provided with musical knowledge in small groups formed on the basis of their stage of development. In addition to musical activities, we emphasise the children’s opportunity for long-lasting play. Joy and fun are essential parts of each day at Kaniini.

At the Vantaa Pilke units, we also offer families the following:
- We often go on snack excursions.
- We take annual daycare photos of the children and groups. Some of the photos are free of charge for families.
- Throughout the year, we organize many events for both the daycare and the whole family. Sometimes, we also invite grandparents and other close relatives.
- Celebrations are important to us: we usually hold spring and Christmas parties as performances, and we celebrate each child's birthday, as well as Father’s Day and Mother’s Day.
- Many of our daycare centers have an active parent committee that anyone interested is welcome to join.

At the daycare, breakfast, lunch, and a snack are offered. At Pilke daycares, we provide children with domestic, healthy, and tasty food that is diverse and easy to eat, designed specifically with children’s tastes and textures in mind.
Each of our daycares has a daycare assistant responsible for warming the food and serving other items according to the menu.
During holiday periods, there are fewer children in daycare, as many families are on vacation and children stay at home. For this reason, some of our daycare centers are closed while others remain open.
The open daycare centers operate as on-duty centers, providing care for all children from Pilke daycare centers in the area who need early childhood education.
These on-duty centers are staffed by Pilke’s own early childhood educators from various daycare centers in the same region.
We inform families well in advance about holiday opening hours and which Pilke daycare centers in the area will be open.
