Art-oriented daycare centre Pilke Aarteiden Talo operates in an ecological log building where the children and early childhood educators get to enjoy fresh indoor air, good acoustics and the calm, peaceful atmosphere created by solid wood elements. Our location close to the Tuusula highway in the verdant Korkki area in Hyrylä ensures excellent transport connections to the entire Tuusula area and to Helsinki. The daycare centre’s wooded close surroundings offer a splendid environment for trips and exercise as well as an abundance of great spots for play. Aarteiden Talo has operated since 1996, and we also provide pre-primary education.

Our daycare centre welcomes children with a safe, unhurried and communal atmosphere. The children have the opportunity to explore their interests in the diverse, homelike environment. During the day at daycare, the children spend time with their age peers in small groups and with children of all ages during outdoor activities and play, for example. Genuine friendship is based on sharing life experiences, giving and receiving, listening to others and empathy. Play and joy enable children’s self-expression and learning to blossom. Our atelier is the heart of Aarteiden Talo where children explore the phenomena of life with our arts teacher. The children familiarise with various materials and techniques through hands-on activities. Visual arts give form and colour to the children’s ideas and emotions.

Our operation is based on the principles and values of the Reggio Emilia pedagogy. Children’s culture, including their thoughts, self-expression and play, is the cornerstone of the Reggio Emilia pedagogy. What does the child see, feel, smell and taste? What is their way to learn and experience things? Which phenomena fascinate them and why? The fundamental idea of the Reggio Emilia pedagogy is to respect the children and to listen to them.

The learning process involves both the children and the educators as well as the learning environment. Loris Malaguzzi, the developer of the Reggio Emilia pedagogy, figuratively considered children to have a hundred languages, a hundred ways of expressing themselves. Our small group activities familiarise children with various themes through visual arts, handicraft, language and interaction, drama, mathematics, music, exploration of nature and the environment, media education and exercise. Childhood is the time of discoveries!
