You can apply for a daycare placement with a service voucher through the City of Turku’s website. Please also fill in the application for early childhood education at Pilke daycare centers.
You can also apply for daycare using private childcare allowance; in that case, you should also complete Pilke’s early childhood education application.
You can apply to us at any time, and starting is possible quite quickly!

Daisy is our communication and information channel between home and daycare. We use Daisy to communicate, for example, about events and news from the daycare.
Families use Daisy to send us information such as childcare bookings and absence notifications.
Swedish-speaking, small and cozy daycare Äppelbo
Pilke Äppelbo Daycare is a small Swedish-speaking unit of Pilke Daycares located in Turku. We provide high-quality, child-centered early childhood education and care for children whose home language is Swedish.
Äppelbo is a warm and welcoming daycare with 33 places, situated in an urban environment. It features bright and spacious facilities, as well as a sunny and sheltered playground. The daycare has excellent transport connections to, among other places, the natural surroundings of Hirvensalo and the center of Turku.
Äppelbo is a small and close-knit daycare where every child is genuinely seen and valued. Our child-centered everyday life is filled with warmth, joy, learning, and discovery.
Excursions are part of our everyday life
Children spend plenty of time outdoors regardless of the weather. Our activities emphasize exploring, observing, and wondering about different natural phenomena, as well as going on nature excursions.
The forest is an excellent playground for children, offering almost endless opportunities for play, movement, and creativity. Nature experiences gained during childhood and youth have a significant impact throughout a person’s life. Nature provides a versatile and inspiring environment for children’s physical activity and learning.
Äppelbo also offers Metsämörri activities which encourage children to explore nearby nature through play, movement, observation, and discovery.

You can apply for a place at Pilke daycare any time!
Typically, families start looking for and applying to daycare about 4–10 months before the planned start of early childhood education.
However, we recommend submitting your application as soon as possible. This helps us to ensure your child gets a place at your chosen daycare center and is able to start at a time that suits your family.

At the daycare, breakfast, lunch, and a snack are offered. At Pilke daycares, we provide children with domestic, healthy, and tasty food that is diverse and easy to eat, designed specifically with children’s tastes and textures in mind.
Each of our daycares has a daycare assistant responsible for warming the food and serving other items according to the menu.
During holiday periods, there are fewer children in daycare, as many families are on vacation and children stay at home. For this reason, some of our daycare centers are closed while others remain open.
The open daycare centers operate as on-duty centers, providing care for all children from Pilke daycare centers in the area who need early childhood education.
These on-duty centers are staffed by Pilke’s own early childhood educators from various daycare centers in the same region.
We inform families well in advance about holiday opening hours and which Pilke daycare centers in the area will be open.
