Our learning orientation
In a science-oriented daycare, the focus is on exploring and wondering at natural phenomena that arise from children’s own interests. Depending on their age, this might mean investigating the states of water or outer space, admiring rainbows, or building three-dimensional shapes. For children, exploring phenomena is a playful way of learning that brings moments of discovery and success.

Pilke Science Daycare Loiste – Discoveries Through Everyday Exploration

Pilke Loiste is located in Rantakylä, Joensuu. We provide safe and encouraging early childhood education for children aged 0–6, where play, learning, and shared experiences go hand in hand.

Our daycare also offers high-quality preschool education, which consistently receives positive feedback from families.

Curiosity and the Joy of Discovery

At Loiste, science education is present in the small moments of everyday life. Together, we explore the local environment, wonder at natural phenomena, and seek answers to children’s questions.

Play, creativity, and sensory experiences form a strong foundation for thinking and learning skills. Children are encouraged to experiment, make discoveries, and experience success naturally through play.

For younger children, science education focuses on sensory exploration, observation, and shared curiosity. As children grow, we gradually deepen their investigative skills step by step.

An Inspiring Environment for Young Explorers

Our learning environment is designed to inspire children to explore and experiment. We have a dedicated science playroom where children can use tools such as magnifying glasses, pipettes, microscopes, and light tables.

Our playground and surrounding nature also serve as natural learning environments—discovery continues outdoors every day.

Collaboration, Encounters, and New Perspectives

We actively collaborate with a variety of partners. We regularly visit a local care home, where we sing, play, and spend time together with elderly residents. These encounters bring children joy and help them develop valuable social and interaction skills.

Internationality is also part of our everyday life. For several years, we have collaborated with a school in Japan. Through video calls and greetings, children get to experience another country’s culture while also sharing their own daily life and Finnish traditions.

This kind of cooperation broadens children’s understanding of the world and strengthens their natural curiosity.

Smooth Finnish Language Learning in Everyday Life

We also offer Finnish as a second language (S2) instruction.

Children learn Finnish in a safe and encouraging environment, where their own language and culture are respected and supported. In our daily communication, we also use English fluently, which helps support families in their everyday life.
