At Home in Nature daycare centre in Kumpula’s natural surroundings

Housed on the ground floor of a perfectly ordinary small apartment block, the homelike daycare centre Pilke Kesäkumpu is located between the lush Vallilanlaakso park area and the rocky forest behind the former College of Midwifery. Our community consists of 35 children and their families, 5 educators and a daycare assistant. Kesäkumpu has its roots in the renowned Taiga Child daycare company (linked site in Finnish) which is now part of the Pilke family.

The key values of our community include respect for others and the environment, safety, loving care and joy. We engage in play, arts and everyday activities indoors and in the nearby forest or park.

Outdoor life around the year

At Home in Nature involves outdoor life around the year, come rain or shine. Morning and afternoon outdoor activities take place in and around the fenced Vallilanlaakso playground. The diverse, hilly park nature and the botanical garden provide us with brilliant outdoor facilities throughout the year. The park provides us with opportunities to go sled sliding in the winter, float bark-and-leaf boats in streams of melting snow in the spring, cool ourselves under the botanical garden’s sprinklers in summer heat, have a healthy snack under the trees’ autumn leaves or take an adventurous walk to the old railway tracks.
